The Duluth Rowing Club took 2nd place in a field of twelve teams competing in the 62nd Duluth International Regatta held on Saturday, July 9 at the Duluth Rowing Center on Park Point. Minneapolis Rowing Club earned first place honors. Over 300 rowers from Minnesota, Michigan, and Manitoba, Canada competed in 29 events.
The regatta also had a special event celebrating the 100th anniversary of Walter Hoover winning the prestigious Diamond Sculls at Royal British Henley Regatta with a christening a brand new quad in his honor, the Walter Hoover 1922.
Duluth crews took first place in three events:
• Mens Quad: Sam Javaherian, Chris Kirby, Evan Leonidas, Thomas Stocking
• Masters Womens 4: Jenny Peterson, Patti Harvieux, Emily Wells Bonnie Fuller- Kask
• Masters Mens 4: Tom Rauschenfels, Randy Newberg, Pete Olson, Greg Peterson
Duluth crews had five second place finishes:
• Masters Mens Quad: Randy Newberg, Eric Dott, Bruce Deruaf, Jim Forsberg
• Junior Mens 8: Chris Kirby, Miles Benson, Noah Cochran, Jack Broadmoore, Zion Desulme, Aidan Fitzpatrick, Eric Zhou, Micah Thomas, cox Beatrice Javaherian
• Junior Mens 4: Chris Kirby, Zion Desulme, Eric Zhou, Miles Benson, cox Lilly Paul
• Masters Mens Single 62+: Pete Olson
• Masters Mens Double: Tom Rauschenfels, Greg Peterson
Duluth crews took third place in five events:
