Over 70 rowers from five area rowing clubs participated in the Duluth Rowing Club’s modified Death Row on September 19. This year’s event was on St. Louis Bay along the west side of Park Point from the Rowing Club to the Superior entry. Due to high winds and waves, the course was shortened from a 12-mile course to 6 miles.
Leaving an hour prior to the race start in calmer water, Patti Harvieux completed the 12-mile course in her single at a time of 1 hour 49 minutes.
First over the finish line for the 6-mile course was a Duluth adult mixed quad bowed by Greg Peterson (0:43:39), followed by another Duluth adult mixed quad bowed by Mary Miller (0:44:13). A Duluth octuple coxed by Judy Ilse finished third (0:44:41). An impressive fourth place finish was a junior men’s single, Grant Steinberger, from Lake Phalen, (0:46:03).
