Learn to Row
Learn to Row is a beginning course for adult men and women with no previous rowing experience. The course introduces rowing, rowing fundamentals, skill development in basic technique, and boat safety.
The first week concentrates on body positioning on a rowing machine, oar handling, and on-water rowing in a 16-person training boat. The second week focuses on sculling with two oars in a 4-person boat and continued technique work on ergs and in bigger training boats. The third week will consist of more time on the water in quads, singles, and doubles. The final week will focus on becoming a solid crew with your boat and maybe even getting into some race techniques for fun! The course goal is to learn skills necessary to continue rowing for fitness and fun.
Each Learn to Row Session includes 16 classes over a 4 week period. Saturday sessions are an opportunity to mix in with other members of the club. Sessions are held during June and July.
Participants wear workout clothing that won’t get caught in a sliding rowing seat, tennis/running shoes (not sandals), and dress in layers, as Park Point weather varies.
