The Duluth Rowing Club is searching for Assistant Rowing Coaches for the Summer of 2023.
Job Title: Assistant Rowing Coach
Job Summary Located in Duluth, Minnesota, the Duluth Rowing Club (DRC) provides its members – youth aged 13-18 and adult men and women of all ages – with a state-of-the-art Rowing Center, rowing equipment, access to Lake Superior and Superior Bay, and fun and fitness opportunities throughout spring, summer, and fall. The DRC also sponsors a number of events during and after the rowing season for further fun and competition.
Reporting to Junior Coaches, and working with the Adult Rowing Coach and other personnel, the Assistant Coach is responsible for helping to organize and coach both adult and junior rowers.
There will be a total of 2-3 assistant coaches and some of the below tasks can be split between them.
Key Responsibilities The Assistant Coach coordinates and manages the following tasks:
- Help to create an environment that welcomes all rowers, whether new or experienced.
- Help coach Junior Rowers weekdays from 8-10am.
- Assist with Junior coaching during regattas
- Communicate with Junior Rowers, Junior Captains, and Junior Coaches regularly
- Assist with Learn to Row Sessions (mid June and mid July)
- Open Boat House Weekdays at 6am for Adult Rowers, and evenings at 5pm.
- Help organize adult rowers into boats for practice
- Help co-commodores maintain equipment and track repair needs
- Help new members integrate into DRC rowing post-LTR
- Assist with boat entries for regattas
Required Qualifications
- Experienced rower
- Ability to work with novice, recreational, fitness-/health-related, and competitive rowers of all ages.
- Accept and abide by DRC policies with regard to US Rowing requirements, Safe Sport qualification, Covid-19 or other public health issues, and facility and equipment use
- Effective oral and written communication skills
- Effective interpersonal skills so as to develop good relationships with all people associated with the DRC
- Effective organizational skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous Rowing Experience
- Previous Coaching or Leadership Experience
Time Commitment: Estimated to be 250-300 hours from mid June through mid August.
Compensation: Starting at $16/hr
