The Duluth Rowing Club is looking for an adult rowing coach for the Summer of 2023.
Position Description
Job Title: Adult Rowing Coach (ARC)
Job Summary: Located in Duluth, Minnesota, the Duluth Rowing Club (DRC) provides its members – youth aged 13-18 and adult men and women of all ages – with a state-of-the-art Rowing Center, rowing equipment, access to Lake Superior and Superior Bay, and fun and fitness opportunities throughout spring, summer, and fall. The DRC also sponsors a number of events during and after the rowing season for further fun and competition.
Reporting to the DRC Board member in charge of personnel, and working with Junior program coaches and adult-rowing captains, the ARC is responsible for adult-rowing (over 18) programming during the rowing season.
Key Responsibilities: The ARC coordinates and manages the following tasks:
- Manage DRC-related communications to adult rowers
- Implement safety education and training for adult rowers
- Oversee safety for adult rowers when using DRC facilities and equipment
- Organize on-water and dry-land workouts for recreational, fitness, and competitive adult rowers
- Provide on-water and dry-land coaching for recreational, fitness, and competitive adult rowers
- Organize and manage adult recreational rowing activities such as Crew and Brew
- Organize, manage, and teach the DRC’s Learn-To-Row (LTR) programs
- Oversee adult-rower mentorships to help new members integrate into DRC rowing post-LTR
- Oversee and manage adult-rower qualifications for using DRC equipment
- Help the DRC Commodore track DRC equipment needing maintenance or repair
- Work with adult-rowing team captains to organize boats for recreation, training, and competition
- Coordinate with Junior Head Coach and/or the Club Administrator to register DRC boat entries for regattas
- Other as determined by the ARC or the Board
Required Qualifications
- Experienced rower
- Ability to work with adult novice, recreational, fitness-/health-related, and competitive rowers
- Accept and abide by DRC policies with regard to US Rowing requirements, Safe Sport qualification, Covid-19 or other public health issues, and facility and equipment use
- Effective oral and written communication skills
- Effective interpersonal skills so as to develop good relationships with all people associated with the DRC
- Effective organizational skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous coaching experience
- US Rowing coaching certification
Time Commitment: Estimated to take 250 hours for the season (June through end of August)
Compensation: Negotiable
